Every week some 700 new viruses are discovered, making
for a vast amount of potential sources of infection.
And, sooner or later, one will be directed at you. In
which case you’d better do something to protect
yourself.
IntY MailDefender is an anti-Spam-anti-virus package
that has been developed to provide a clean feed of email
to your network. Email sent to your server is redirected
via IntY’s online operation. Only if it is deemed
clean is it then passed on to your server gateway. Threat
emails never even get that far.
This arrangement, as well as maximising security, frees
up important bandwidth for your core business concerns.
For added peace of mind the IntY MailDefender anti-virus
package is constantly updated and is located in multiple
data centres throughout the UK (to provide resiliency
against hackers). Because it is an online service, it
is simple to set up and requires no software or hardware
to be installed on your network.
IntY MailDefender anti-virus package identifies viruses
in emails by one of two methods:
- Firstly, heuristic scanning analyses newly arrived
emails for suspicious tell-tale signs and distribution
patterns that might indicate a virus attack. If an
email passes this test, it is then subject to Sophos
antiviral scanning package.
- The Sophos anti-virus software package analyses
for the presence of known viruses. Viral definition
updates are passed to the Sophos anti-virus engine
every 5 minutes – it is always up-to-date in
other words.
If the email fails this second test, it is then quarantined
in a secure online area where it can be accessed for
inspection by administrators up to 21 days after it
has been received. In addition, the system can be set
up to send summary emails reporting on quarantine activity
at regular intervals, if so wished.
The Sophos anti-virus software is used by over 60%
of FTSE 100 companies and is the UK's leading provider
of corporate anti-virus software. Keeping a constant
track of new viruses and their characteristics, Sophos
developers and virus experts are on duty 24/7 to make
sure their virus definition database is kept constantly
up to date.
And even if a virus is so new that is hasn’t
yet appeared on this database, there’s still a
good chance the heuristic scanning procedures will pick
up the tell-tale signs of viral infection – and
prevent a successful attack.
